Winning the Week

“Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have twenty-four hour days.”

– Zig Ziglar

Hi Everyone,

I was talking with Dave Sterenberg the other day and he was talking about how he and his team have started a thing called “Winning the Week”. In pursuit of their goals, they identify 3 to 5 things that if accomplished would represent “winning” a week. Write them down every Friday and review them every Friday and …then they keep score. If they win three out of four weeks then they’ve “Won the Month”, this extends out to quarters, semesters and for the year.

What I liked about this approach, is that it focuses everyone on ensuring the most important things get accomplished, not just the most urgent.

Your time is incredibly valuable. In fact, how you invest your time is the most important decision you make every single day. All day long you are making choices … tradeoffs in the competing priorities of your life. I am suggesting that you be intentional about how you spend your time. Take the time to prioritize your week, three to five things that you absolutely must do to “Win the Week”. I’ve had this habit for most of my career, even when I wasn’t in consulting, it has been the source of a lot of happiness for me and contributed greatly to my success.

One important goal that each of you should have, is to buy back time that is wasted on preventable problems like fire drills, communication issues, or teamwork issues. As you’re setting your goals for the week make sure you’re including steps towards solving tame problems at Tahzoo that are getting in your way. You’ll find that those accomplishments impact your mental health tremendously. We are always selling Tahzoo as a company that builds customer experiences that just work. There is no reason working at Tahzoo should not feel the same way- something that just works. The work we do for our clients is hard enough.

If you want to talk to me about time management, goal setting, or any of those types of topics, I am available – just send a note to me and copy Harrison and we’ll get some time on the calendar. We’ll think about what I said, and start planning your how-to Win the Week.

Let’s go be great!

Brad
